'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he ran.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained items including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant went on to play the "treat game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The prosecutor explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.
She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
