The second-hand marketplace Users Voice Anger Over Size Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has revised its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Reaction
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Earlier, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Manual Updates
A different user, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: last year, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
